From Lab to Real-Life: Firstbeat to Measure VO2max Fitness Level from 30-minute Walk

Estimates an individual Fitness level While walking will be included in the first -bat lifestyle diagnosis in September 2018. A new algorithm produced by the First Beat has made it possible to estimate the VO2MAX-is steadily measured in a laboratory.
It can be difficult to review your fitness. Fitness level scores provide a reasonable estimate of their current fitness level in relation to factors such as age and gender. Professional IT, it provides another tool to evaluate the ongoing success of client fitness projects.
What is VO2MAX?
VO2MAX is a maximum oxygen uptic of an individual. It states that the body can supply and use oxygen to generate energy during exercise. Known as a key metric for health, it is considered to be the most important parameter for describing the fitness of the cardiovascular system. Research has shown that vo2max is also associated with better improvement, functional ability, general health, longevity, and even reducing health care costs.
How does it work in a lifestyle diagnosis
Properly measured vo2max is largely limited to complex laboratory testing, which requires severe physical labor and measurement of respiratory gases. The First Beat algorithm simplifies this process and makes it possible to estimate the real -life -self -speeding activity without the need for a particular test. A client’s fitness level can be estimated until the 3 -day measurement data covers at least a permanent 30 -minute fast moving walk at least 2 km.
The first bat bodyguard, already used in lifestyle diagnosis, takes a permanent heart rate and acceleration data from 2 device. Highly reliable data points are used to calculate VO2MAX and eventually an individual’s fitness level.
“Being able to determine the client’s fitness level is a great completion of our analysis of stress, recovery, sleep and daily physical activity.” Exercise physiologist Tina Halfman From the First Beat, “We know how important a person’s health and flexibility physical physical fitness is, and that’s why we want to extend this opportunity to customers for the diagnosis of our lifestyle. The fitness level coach will also make it easier to identify the key development areas of our clients to fully support their welfare.”
The benefits include:
- Correct estimates of the current aerobic condition.
- Eliminates subjectiveness when evaluating an individual’s fitness.
- Confirms whether the changes made between the original and follow -up measure are having the desired effect.
- A clear way to recommend physical activity: It is difficult for clients to ignore the data offered.
- Encourages individuals by displaying a level of fitness at a scale compared to the same age/gender colleagues.
Pilot Test users’ feedback
The First Beat tested the fitness level with two pilot groups. The use of lifestyle diagnosis by a professional health career, and participants in an individual lifestyle diagnosis. The results highlight how the new feature can encourage positive lifestyle changes. Overall, 73 % of the pilot users ranked their VO2MAX as “useful” or “very useful”.
Some specific comments include:
“I always assumed that I was fit. The results of this test showed that I really stand.”
– Women, 29, vo2max: 36, ‘poor fitness’.
“I expected much better results than that. It wants me to exercise more in the future.”
– Men, 45, vo2max: 37, ‘poor fitness’.
“I am happy with the result, but, immediately. The same, an understanding that the ‘excellent’ is not a long journey to reach the fitness level.
– Men, 42, vo2max: 45, ‘good fitness’.
“It shook me, but this wake -up call is good. Understanding how much impact the exercise has, my activity certainly increases. The positive thing is that I can affect my condition.”
– Women, 65, vo2max: 25, ‘poor fitness’
