Newtown Athletic Club Hosts Free Veterans Fitness Program

In a world where physical and mental well-being are becoming increasingly important, a local partnership between a Bucks County fitness center and the Victor Six non-profit organization stands out by giving back to those who have served. The Newtown Athletic Club hosts a Veterans Fitness Program that is designed specifically to support veterans in their health journey towards building strength and a renewed sense of purpose.

In partnership with the Newtown Athletic Club, David A. Christian, Captain U.S. Army, medically retired for wounds in combat and an internationally recognized “Veterans Advocate,” has taken to task to combat the war on the at-risk physical and mental health of Veterans, reducing the risk of suicide. It has been established that there is a direct correlation between physical and mental health; he has created a working environment correlating and combining physical activities for veterans with/without disabilities. Many veterans struggle with physical injuries, mental health issues like PTSD, and the transition from military to civilian life. Recognizing these challenges, this program not only addresses physical fitness but also builds a supportive community for veterans. The program is free to active military and Veterans.

Veterans and Active military members with and without disabilities ranging from ages 21 to 86 participate. Veterans are assessed for their level of fitness and an individualized training program is developed by a training team, including certified personal trainers assisted by specialty coaches. Their motto “A STRONG BODY FUELS A STRONG MIND”  is based on scientific research that regular exercise improves physical health, thereby improving mental health by relieving depression. The goal of the organization is to prevent suicide in this high risk population. Co-Founder Diane Reitz leads the highly skilled training team of Glady-Reyes-Diaz, Kyle Tunis, Janice Perry, Tory Murphy, Jose Colon-Cruz, Bob Cassalia, Kymberlee Haberman, Corey Toothman, KC Shafer and June Wallace. The program extends beyond the walls of the gym, as vets attend multiple community events. Captain David A. Christian and his “Red Shirts” are featured in parades and multiple Armed Forces and Veterans events throughout the community.

The Newtown Athletic Club and the NAC Have a Heart Foundation are proud to be involved in the Victor Six Veterans Fitness program, which provides veterans the chance to participate in a physical and mental well-being program that, in many cases, saves their lives. This program includes 3 months of customized fitness, wellness and psychological adherence training to improve the physical and mental well being of the participants. One of the standout features of the Veterans Fitness Program is its emphasis on community. Veterans often face feelings of isolation after leaving the military, and this program seeks to combat that by fostering a sense of fellowship and belonging. The camaraderie developed among the veterans is an integral aspect of the successful outcomes.

This program is free for all veterans! Read more about the Veterans Fitness Program and other ways the NAC gives back here.
